Doors

Customkitchen offers you the opportunity to purchase custom-made doors, drawer fronts and other details that meet your desire.

For example, it is possible to extend the cabinet doors so that the door extends beyond the wall cabinet itself and thus create a handle. By extending the cabinet door from the top, the gap between the cabinet and ceiling can be covered.

Doors are fitted to the cabinets with hinges. Doors can be opened either to the side or upwards. It is important to take into account that a door cannot be extended from the side that is attached to the cabinet.

Door handedness determines from which side the door is attached to the cabinet.

Our doors and drawer fronts are pre-drilled for IKEA cabinet hinges and drawers, and are thus as easy to install as IKEA standard doors. Our doors are not pre-drilled for buttons and handles.
Hinge drillings are adjusted to IKEA Utrusta hinges (Metod kitchen doors) and Komplement hinges (PAX wardrobe doors).

When increasing the height of the door less than 80mm, the hinge drilling remains in the same location as in case of standard measurements. However, if you wish that the drilling moves along with a shorter extension, please write your request in the comment box of the order. If you have any questions, we will be happy to provide help and consultation.

Maximum height of smooth panel doors is 300cm and 280cm for framed or patterned doors.

In addition to IKEA frames, we also offer doors for other cabinet frames. To do this, we need a precise measurement of the door and the location of hinge and drawer drilling holes. Ask us for guidance and we will help you to take the right measurements.

We do not provide the hinges (you need to buy these from IKEA).

Tip!

If you want to use one longer door that covers several frames on top of each other, we recommend not installing the bottom side of the upper frame. This will prevent the creation of double bottom at the transition of two frames.

If you want to connect multiple doors, use IKEA’s door connector part number 303.669.17

Drawer front

Drawers are generally in the base cabinets and are opened by pulling out. Our drawer fronts are pre-drilled for IKEA’s drawer fittings and can be installed as easily as genuine IKEA products. Our fronts are not pre-drilled for buttons and handles.

Kitchen drawer fitting holes are drilled for Maximera (Metod frames).

If a drawer panel is extended from one side, standard drawer drilling holes remain unchanged.

We do not provide drawers (you must buy these from IKEA).

In addition to those made for IKEA, we also offer drawer fronts for other frames. To do this, we need a precise measurement of the door and the location of hinge and drawer drilling holes. Ask us for guidance and we will help you to take the right measurements.

Tip!

If you want to connect multiple drawers, use IKEA’s front panel connection rails, part number: 602.635.88, and for dishwasher part number: 503.086.05

Cover panel

Cover panels are installed for covering the frame sides and under the wall cabinet – flush with the door or drawer front, extending to the adjacent wall, as well as on the back and on the sides of kitchen islands.

We recommend that you order the side panels a bit larger than necessary, to cut them to the right size according to any wall, ceiling or floor irregularities, and thus achieve the best result.

We do not provide installation tools, such as screws, tapes and angle brackets.

Fitting method:

In order to align the front edge of side panel with the door and drawer front, the side panel must be installed outward of the frame by 21–22mm. In the event that the side panel extends out more, cut the panel from the wall side.

In case of cutting with a power tool, we recommend that you cut the work piece from inside, so that the saw teeth enter the work piece from outside. In this way, the cut edge is smoother and with less chip-outs.

When cutting with handsaw, the side panel should be cut from outside, so that the saw teeth enter the work piece from outside. For the best possible results, we recommend to tape the cutting line before cutting.

Side panel is fastened to the frame with screws (screwed through the cabinet frame into the side panel). Make sure that the screws are not too long and do not penetrate the side panel.

Tip!

If the walls, ceiling or floor are not straight, we recommend adding a few extra centimetres to the size of the side panel. Then you will be able to precisely cut the side panel on the site and achieve a better final result without large gaps between the wall and the side panel.

Narrow cover panels can also be used as spacer strips to “frame in” the doors and fronts. Spacer strips should be installed between each cabinet frame in such a way that they stand out of the cabinet frame by 21-22mm and are aligned with doors or drawer fronts.

Filler strip

 Filler strips are used to cover gaps between doors and walls or between doors and the ceiling. Since the door is not completely against the frame and the filler strip is evenly aligned with the front edge of the door or drawer panel, the deco strips are 22mm thick so that the strips would extend to the frame (door thickness 19 mm).

We do not provide installation tools, such as screws, tapes and angle brackets.

Fitting method:

Measure the opening to be covered with a deco strip and then cut the strip to size.

In case of cutting with a power tool, we recommend that you cut the work piece from inside, so that the saw teeth enter the work piece from outside. In this way, the cut edge is smoother and with less chip-outs.

When cutting with a handsaw, the side panel should be cut from outside, so that the saw teeth enter the work piece from outside. For the best possible results, we recommend to tape the cutting line before cutting.

To simplify the installation, we recommend installing an additional beam behind the filler strip, which is then attached to the frame with the filler strip (by screwing from inside). You can also use an extra filler strip, which is installed at 90° behind the outer strip.

Tip!

If the walls, ceiling or floor are not straight, we recommend adding few extra centimetres to the filler strip length. Then you will be able to precisely cut the filler strip on site and achieve a better final result without large gaps between the strip and wall, ceiling, or floor.

Plinth

A plinth is installed between cabinets and the floor. A plinth is usually located about 12cm inward from the door or drawer front, but can also be installed flush with the door or drawer front surfaces.

If you want to install the plinth further in front, use the same installation method as with filler strips. First, attach the plinth to the extra beam and then screw it to the frame from the inside.

We do not provide installation tools, such as screws, tapes and angle brackets.

Fitting method:

Fasten the IKEA’s standard plinth on the back of the plinth delivered by us. Then install the plinth in accordance with IKEA’s instructions.

Tips:

We also provide plinths with milled ventilation openings for kitchen appliances. You can also cut the top edge of the plinth at the appliance area yourself to make the necessary ventilation opening.

“Framed-in” doors and drawer fronts

For IKEA cabinet frames, the so-called “framed in” doors and drawer fronts can be achieved by installing spacer strips between as well as below and on top of the cabinet frame. On the sides of the cabinets regular side panels are installed. Spacer strips should extend 21–22mm beyond the cabinet frame to align with doors and drawer panels.
Accordingly, the spacer strips should be mounted in front. We recommend that you order slightly longer spacer strips than you need, since then you can cut them precisely on the spot and achieve the best final results.

Use a 20cm wide cover panel as a spacer strip.

It is important to take into account that the installation of the trip on a lower cabinet raises the height of the working top by the thickness of the strip.

We do not provide installation tools, such as screws, tapes and angle brackets.

Fitting method:

Spacer strips are visible only on the front of the frame, so 20cm is a sufficient width for the strips. However, side panels that extend to the wall should be used on the outside or visible sides of the kitchen.

Spacer strips are installed between all frames and will extend outside of the frame by 21–22mm. Spacer strips are attached to the frame sides with screws (by screwing through the frame into the spacer strip). If vertically and horizontally mounted spacer strips are connected to each other, we recommend pre-drilling the necessary holes to prevent cracks.

Tip!

If you wish to create a uniform frame around the doors and drawers, you can order unfinished filler strips, and, after the installation, cover the gaps with putty and paint the entire strip. For even more uniform results, we also recommend to order all other details such as doors and drawers in an unfinished form.
